Birth of a .58 rim fire round

Here is a process for making brass for the 1st Allin conversion and the Parker Snow Miller conversion.
I did not develop this process but I'm trying to figure out a way to speed up the process as it is very time consuming.
Making the brass washer that adds some meat to the inside of the base, shaping the washer and sweat soldering takes some time.
I forgot to take pictures of that part.
I have fired these in my 1st Allin but with the largest Minnie ball mold I could find, I believe they were 575 diameter and 450 gr. so these 590 diameter bullets I have not shot yet. I purchased the mold from accurate molds along with another I had them custom make.

Have you considered inserting a fine-threaded brass plug in the primer pocket, prior to drilling for the blank, possibly using 'close but not matching' threads, so that you really have to torque it in? Or maybe a self-drilling, self-tapping steel sheet-metal screw?

I was looking at small brass plugs with pipe threads. Only problem is that they are inserted using Allen keys. I believe once you drill the hole you run into the key hole which I believe would weaken the plug???

I don't think the plug is the weakest part of the case. It is retained by more than half the thread, is forced into those threads by the explosion of the blank, and is fully supported to the rear by the block. There has GOT to be a better (faster) way to achieve the results you want.

Neat video with the Springfield Allen conversion . . . . .
I noticed when it was fired, smoke emanating from the breech . . . .indicating bad “case obturation.” (Black, sooty cases upon ejection)

Maybe case annealing would soften up the mouths to better expand and fill the chamber???

The .575 hollow base mini will expand to the rifling.
I wouldn’t think that the .590 is necessary.

Fred, I'm using the .590 as that is the diameter of the original round. It also fits the case much tighter than the .575 mini ball.

Yes, I had to crimp my .58 Centerfire cases to retain the 575 Miniball.
I believe I will get one of those .590 molds too.

There isn’t enough rim on the shell to catch the extractor, so the company sent rubber o rings to do just that and seal the breech and tighten up the head space on my .58 Remington Rolling Block.
