I finally was able to get these books to help me better understand both the history and the details of my growing Springfield trapdoor collection. Al Frasca’s books set are a matching signed number set.

outstanding pictures and so much detailed information in these books, but for me, Dick Hosmer‘s books are much easier to use for the information that I’m looking for.

Thank you very much! That was my intent - to provide a HANDY reference that one could take to shows, and if it dropped on the floor - no big deal. I had never intended to compete with Al - his education and research capabilities were FAR beyond mine. Before Joe Poyer's illness and death, we had talked about putting out a three-volume boxed set, but it never came to be. I will be lucky to do a second edition of ".58/50" to match "More". That is my present goal but progress is slow...

Hi Mr. Hosmer. Would you consider putting together a brief guide to establishing authenticity of the .58 and .50 rifles and carbines, something like the five or six things to look at when considering each model? It basically would be a condensation of your current excellent reference work. Jim

Hmmm - something I'd never thought of. I'm already at the bottom of the literary food-chain, and am not sure there would be a market for such. My current situation is this, I'll be 88 in November; I have a very sick wife whose care takes a LOT of my time, and, I am a terrible procrastinator.

My absolute #1 goal is to revise "58/50" to match the size and layout of "More." This is compounded by the fact that the "translation" of Joe Poyer's high-end editing program to "Pages" on my Mac is time-consuming. I've got the text and photo process worked out but the tables are giving me fits - MAY have to do them over from scratch. Then I have to incorporate Fred's 68/68 stuff, along with some other minor revisions. I have about 1000 copies left which sell 2-3 per month. Rather than write something new, I MIGHT just have a fire-sale on them . . .

Goal #2 is to reconstruct my electronic ms for "More". Due entirely to my ignorance it has become 'scrambled'. I have been making small updates which it would be nice to be able to publish, but it is now unusable, until I fix it. Nothing lost or irretrievable, just muddled. No pressure here, as Amazon has the original ms. I just want to make it right and offer a second printing.

I'll keep your idea in mind - but I wouldn't hold my breath . . .
