Friends- Just a reminder (from a very satisfied customer who has Volume 2 and just ordered Volumes 1 and 3):
Ed Hull's research and writing are superb, but his info has been buried in out of print periodicals, nearly impossible to access.
Ed has spiffed them up a bit and published them in three volumes, described below. Order from Amazon- just search for "Antique Firearms 1849-1899."
Quote from a post by Ed elsewhere:
"ANTIQUE FIREARMS 1849 – 1899, A FOUR DECADE ANTHOLOGY is a collection of over forty years of magazine articles and essays on military firearms technology — it is the culmination of a lifetime of the author’s research on the history of various firearms. This series has been created for the purpose of providing a single source for the many informative articles created by the author. Some of the magazines in which these articles were published have ceased publication or are less accessible to today’s reader; hence these books make the research information more readily available.
The three current volumes include 53 stories:
Volume I Breechloading Firearms: The Age Of Invention
Volume II Used In War
Volume III Remington Military Longarms and Bayonets
Some minor changes have been made to the articles since their original publication. In a very few cases, to avoid publishing information now known to be incorrect, the text has been updated based on more current research. The format of the articles has also been changed to better fit publication as chapters in a book. The most significant changes made, however, have come in the form of some updated photographs. The original photograph negatives have been scanned and digitized, allowing clearer illustrations to be used. Also, modern camera technology has allowed for the inclusion of more recent, higher-quality images of the arms photographed for the original releases. A select few images have been added that were not available for the original articles in order to better illustrate the discussion in the text.
This series is sponsored by the Institute Of Military Technology. More volumes are planned. They are available on Amazon.
