Re: Model 1870 Springfield Arsenal Rolling Block Trials Rifle

Thanks, Dick, It seems like Dorsey or McPheeters had a carbine up for sale many years ago. I've never seen one in person either, same with the Sharps. It seems the Ward Burton stuff has survived to a slightly greater degree. I found a well used WB carbine years ago (still have it!), and currently, t...

Model 1870 Springfield Arsenal Rolling Block Trials Rifle

Preview: Model 1870 Springfield Arsenal Rolling Block Trials Rifle I was recently fortunate enough to obtain a very nice Model 1870 Springfield Arsenal Rolling Block Trials Rifle. These surviving trials rifles are exceedingly rare as there were only slightly over 1000 manufactured at Springfield for...

Re: Nickel (?) plating removal?

John,
Congratulations on finding a very rare trials rifle from the early Indian Wars period. Those are exceedingly rare. I, too found one about six weeks ago. Amazing what comes out of the weeds on occasion.

Re: Hunting knife

I had noticed that, too. I'd love to have a correct, belt loop scabbard, but that one certainly is wanky. At first I thought it was one of the repros sold by What Price Glory. After looking at it more closely, I think it was converted from one of the longer Hospital Corps knife scabbards by trimming...

Re: Mckeever

45Govt, Here's a bit of a rarity for you,...not the box itself, it's just a run of the mill 2nd pattern McKeever of Watervliet manufacture. However, it is unit marked to a cavalry unit. If you recall, McKeevers were originally intended to be worn in pairs with the M1874 Palmer Infantry brace equipme...

Re: Unit marked M1866 trapdoor

IMG_2169 (1).jpg [/img] IMG_2161 (1).jpg IMG_2171 (1).jpg These are legitimate regular army unit markings. I have one exactly like it, in fact, I bought it from the same gentleman who owns the subject rifle. So far, I have accounted for eight M1866 rifles with this same marking made from the same m...

Re: Forager load data

I spoke on the phone to Stephen McCartney this morning. Unfortunately, he does no have the original government load data for the forager loads. He did, however, suggest that you might look up the information on the loading kits that were issued along with the shotguns to the companies. He thinks tha...
