Re: Random observations on 1868's and GB

Thanks for the insight. I, too, felt that way, but being a newer collector, I was just thinking it was market. I was waiting it out anyway.

Identify blanks?

I believe these are blanks. Two are marked WRA Co 45-70 (big one and smaller), and one is blank (remaining smaller). I have not found anywhere yet to sort of ID and get a ballpark of the time frame. The tall one is just over 2.5 inches, and the smaller ones are about 2.1 inches. Any help is apprecia...

Re: Model 1865

Awesome pics; thanks for sharing. If I am right, they are in order, but I am not sure about the last two. I have not delved into the 1873 yet. I did not see any markings on the barrel. I hope to find a good M1866 next. Then go back for a Springfield Rifle Musket unless my wife stops me. Frank

Re: Model 1865

Awesome thanks for everyones posts it continually pushes the needle of my knowledge. I was nervous venturing into the M1865 which for me is my pinnacle on my interest. So thanks again and if there is anything unusual or different on the 65 I have please mention it.

Re: Model 1865

Thanks, never really considered the others, though I do have a Burnside carbine that I have not spent any time on researching. But am looking for that right Model 1866. Ultimately, I want an 1868 and an early 1873.

Re: Model 1865

Thanks, The deeper I dive on this the better I feel. I must have spent 45 minutes examining before I pulled the trigger, figuratively. I have a Model 1870 and that is what started it all. I do want an 1866 and 1868.

Model 1865

I decided to buy the Model 1865, and through my noob eyes, using all my resources, everything looked good to me  . I was concerned that the cartouches were a little hard to see but they were there. I am curious about the sling it does have age. It did have RT on the left flat side and looks li...
